Too many unexpected left turns?

Take a breath.

Dig deeper.

Impatient with your co-worker?

Take a breath.

Dig deeper.

Annoyed with your spouse or partner?

Take a breath.

Dig deeper.

Irritated with politics or societal situations?

Take a breath.

Dig deeper.

Frustrated with your own struggles?

Take a breath.

Dig deeper.

I think you get the idea. The point I'm trying to make is that getting wrapped up in what doesn't seem fair or right takes your attention away from gratitude for what is good. I'm not advocating the rose-colored glasses that ignore how you feel, but I AM advocating moving through the emotions to avoid getting stuck.

Whenever things feel out of control or overwhelming, take a breath. A nice, deep, slow breath.

This alone is enough to interrupt the mental chaos. Trust me. It works. A deep breath encourages us to slow down and reset.

What do I mean by dig deeper? Tap into your inner strength and courage to move through the struggle, find your love nudge, and keep going.

Being frustrated by the unexpected isn't going to help you adapt. Digging deeper to understand that the lack of control makes you feel powerless is helpful. With this nugget, you can see that you have the power to choose how you respond and flow with the change.

Impatience with a co-worker (store clerk, etc) isn't going to make them any faster or suddenly attain your desired level of competency. Digging deeper to understand that you are feeling pressured by time will help you allow for them to do their job without the extra tension from you.

Being annoyed with your spouse isn't going to make them miraculously understand what you want or need. Digging deeper and calmly articulating your needs, wants or opinions paves the way for ease.

Being irritated with politics or societal situations isn't gong to wave the magic wand and make everything the way you would prefer it to be. Digging deeper to reveal what is at the root of the irritation (injustice, partisan responses, etc.) will guide an informed and aligned response (march, sign a petition, call your representative, pray, etc.).

Here's a biggie for a lot of us. Being frustrated with our own struggles isn't going to make us smarter, better, funnier, cuter, skinnier, richer or anything else. Digging deeper reminds us that the daily journey is where we discover, develop and dedicate our gifts.

Struggles don't demonstrate failure; they demonstrate growth.

Where can you dig deeper in your life?
