In creating, the only hard thing is to begin: a grass blade’s no easier to make than an oak.
—James Russell Lowell

Take the first step. What do you have to lose? What is really at stake? Ego? Fear? Pride?

Regardless of what you want to create, you have to take the first step.

Remember, you get a clean slate to create each day. You create your intentions, your responses, your time allotment, your relationships, your experiences…

Creating involves knowing yourself and allowing curiosity to be the leader.

To create a healthy mindset for my day, I start with a prayer and gratitude before I get out of bed. I open to the possibility of the day, connection to Divine, and an awareness of what is on my heart. A healthy mindset doesn’t mean that I am feeling on top of the world and everything is perfect. On the mornings I wake up a bit crabby, I still offer gratitude for a new day and ask for guidance and the ability to allow what’s hanging out just beneath the surface to be seen and understood. To me, a healthy mindset doesn’t mean rose-colored glasses; it means being honest about where I am and how I’m feeling…and giving myself permission to feel that way.

Take the first step…create your day with gratitude.

Relationships, be it personal or professional, are an integral part of my day. This is another area where I get to create—this time, it’s connection. I choose how I show up and create connection with others. The easy connection is when there is similar energy. When someone is a bit bristly, a connection can still be created, especially when curiosity is present. However, to get to the curiosity, it is necessary to not take things personally. Being grounded in self-love and acceptance softens my edges, inviting the other to soften a bit, too. My responses to the other, and vice versa, create the opportunity to connect and explore with openness and curiosity.

Take the first step…create connection with curiosity.

Another regular aspect of my day is creating through writing or playing piano. There are moments when I feel like I ‘need to write something important’ and I do nothing but stare at a blank screen or a quote, waiting for the magic fairy dust to make it come alive to me. That’s my sign that I’m stuck and trying to make something happen instead of creating. When I create, be it through words or music, it comes from within. Always. I open to the curiosity of what is within that is eager to come forward and be shared. I allow for the vulnerability of expressing my ideas…my thoughts…my music…my words…and give myself permission for that to be enough…because it always is.

Take the first step…create by going within.

You have many opportunities to create within each day, much of which starts with mindset. Create a mindset of curiosity and empowerment, knowing that if you want a situation to be different, you have the power to create a different response. You don’t have to be trapped in an endless cycle of self-judgment. You don’t have to have the same routine every day. You don’t have to be walked all over by your co-workers. You don’t have to pressure yourself to be anything other than who you are. Love yourself enough to create a different response, one that is healthy for you and supports your well-being.

Take the first step…create a different response.

What ‘first step’ will you take today?

Walking together in light, love, and peace 🙏
