🌀 EQ: Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is your ability to understand, relate to, and work with your emotions. When you get curious about how you feel and why, you begin to discover the kind of emotional person you are—and how to care for that part of yourself.

By naming what’s happening inside, you create space to shift it. Through simple tools and meaningful insights, you can strengthen your relationship with yourself and show up more fully with others.

Because emotions are energy—and so much of the healing we seek is emotional at its core—integrating emotional intelligence with energy work felt like a natural path. Becoming a certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner allows me to support healing on every level. Together, Reiki and emotional intelligence create a powerful foundation for working with the full spectrum of what arises in the healing process.

Emotional intelligence is not a fixed trait—it’s something we can grow.

🤝 What is a Certified Peer Specialist?

A Certified Peer Specialist offers support to individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges—through connection, shared experience, and trust.

What makes a Peer Specialist unique is their lived experience. Having walked their own journey with mental health and/or substance use, they complete formal training and certification in peer support practices.

They blend empathy, recovery insight, and evidence-based skills to walk alongside others—centered in hope, respect, and nonjudgment.

I first learned about peer support when I applied for a job on a warm line. At the time, I didn’t even know what a warm line was—essentially, it’s a non-crisis helpline offering emotional support. One of the job requirements was to become a Certified Peer Specialist within six months of being hired. I was open and curious, stepping into what felt like a whole new world.

To my surprise, I quickly discovered how deeply peer support and energy work align. The training was transformative. It expanded my awareness and built on a foundation I had already established through Reiki and other healing practices.

The guiding principles of peer support mirror those found in energy work:

  • Person-centered
  • Strengths-based
  • Trauma-informed
  • Walk alongside the peer
  • Goal setting
  • Each person is the expert in their own lived experience
  • Self-determined
  • Non-judgmental

The added dimension that Reiki and energy work bring includes:

  • Body-directed awareness
  • Emotional healing
  • Well-being on the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical levels
  • Nurturing a feeling of safety within the body

I feel very fortunate to offer a blend of Reiki and peer support in sessions at Lux Eterna Healing. These two paths complement each other beautifully, supporting healing that honors both inner wisdom and energetic balance.
